Regarding the move to recruit Dr. Eric Wargotz as a nominee for Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party, Dr. Wargotz has released the following remarks:
"I am both humbled and honored to have many central committee members, and supporters rallying me to run for the Chairman position. The past couple of weeks have been spent carefully considering this opportunity to lead our State party.
The upcoming term presents much opportunity for the Maryland Republican Party to focus its message and thus make substantive gains. Hopefully, a sharpened one carefully crafted based on traditional Conservative values with a goal towards truly achieving a two-party system in our great State.
In conjunction with family, friends, supporters and trusted advisors I have reached the conclusion that although I am up for the challenge of leading this effort as Chairman, I will forgo this unique opportunity at this time as I continue to strongly consider a run for elected office in the near future.
Thus, I offer my sincere congratulations to all nominees for Chairman of the Maryland Republican Party. I pledge my support, time and energy in assisting the new Chairman and the incoming Officers and Executive Board. Furthermore, I will continue to work with the Republican Party and others to promote core Conservative values in Maryland and throughout the Nation. Sincerely, Eric"

This is disappointing news to be sure. Eric would make an excellent Chairman. In office and on the campaign trail he has proven that he understands how to organize and build coalitions, raise money, evaluate and execute plans. These are but a few, among his talents. A Conservative with sensitivity is what we need in Maryland. Not some rabid dog. Eric has struck me and countless others as just that. This guy is capable of doing remarkable things and I will support him in any future political endeavors.
I say: "Praise the Lord!!!" We do NOT need him as Chair. Maryland Republicans need to set our sights HIGH as we refuse to settle for anything less than excellent leadership. Some of the desirable characteristics include energetic belief in the transparent democratic/citizen process, strategic marketing, a free-market mind (Read The Science of Success by Charles Koch.), humility, and a yieldedness to receive the multi-faceted, intelligent, and knowledgeable participation of ALL Republican voters as a collaboration. The Chair just needs to steer the ship that has many working parts.
As for fundraising: With the right leadership, countless numbers of Republicans statewide would enthusiastically pour the money in because FINALLY they could see that someone knows what he/she is doing. A person who already rubs elbows with the so-called big-money Party insiders is definitely a bad prescription for this sick patient.
IMHO, Maryland conservatives needs a clean break from the failed candidates and policies of the past. There is a Youtube video of Eric talking about how he was "Sick of people hiding behind a sacred document" (the Constitution!!).
Maryland needs a guerrilla war - conservatives don't have the resources to fight a conventional war. Let's push for some new blood at the top.
My two cents,
Rick
Yes, Wargotz is a purist and I agree with him. Too many people use our treasured founding documents to hide behind and not articulate real positions. I can't stand the constitution-thumping crowd who do not really understand it. Go Wargotz - whatever you want to do - we are with you.
I just read this and agree wholehartedly:

Furthermore, Wargotz may be criticized for having been a member of the Dem party for a couple of years (frankly Murphy and Rutledge both were Democrats for their entire lives until a decade or two ago but we don't see blogging about that - I happen to also like both of them as well) and I do not condemn anyone for having been one. There are conservatives in both - no one party has ownership over core traditional values. Eric would have proved to be an excellent chairman. He is honest and has integrity. His views on the Constitution are right-on and he doesn't hide behind such founding documents and merely spew rhetoric.
Best of luck Dr. Wargotz! You have our support.

This is the best news! I was worried that another RINO would take over as party chair. Eric Wargotz is the definition of a RINO. As early as 2002 he gave money to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend in her run against Bob Ehrlich. He's given lots of money to the Queen Anne's County Democratic Central Committee, and another Obama socialist Rushern Baker.
Not to mention, he made everyone in the Republican party look like a pack of idiots with him never shutting up about Obama's birth certificate.
Eric Wargotz needs to go away from Maryland Republican Politics. He and others like him are what drags this party to the left and into the losing column every 2 years.
Electing Eric Wargotz Chair of the Republican Party of Maryland would be the equivalent of electing George W. Bush Chairman of the Democratic Party.
I don't know who I'll vote for next Saturday, but thank god Eric Wargotz is out of the discussion.

I, too, agree with her. Many good men seem to always have their detractors and some idiot rantings here continue to prove that with their inaccuracies and lies. Dr. Wargotz has decided not to run for Chair and I respect that. I will support him in the future.
